Welcome, Ellen. Why do you believe teaching women and girls self-defense is the missing key to ending violence against females?

Full BIO: “Safety Godmother” Ellen Snortland is writer, director and producer of the new documentary “Beauty Bites Beast – Revealing the Missing Conversations about Ending Violence.” Ellen is an author, actor, attorney, radio and TV personality and writing coach. As a self-defense advocate and instructor she’s worked tirelessly for decades teaching women and girls to fight back against violence.

Ellen grew up in Colorado and South Dakota, and set out early in life to be a Renaissance Woman. She made her way to California by the time she was 17 and has never looked back. She earned a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, co-founded the first all-female theater company in the early 70s, acted in and directed several TV shows during the 80s, attended the 4th United Nations World Conference on Women in Beijing, the 2001 World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa, and annual UN meetings as an NGO delegate and journalist, served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the National Women's History Project, and much more.

Ellen's work as an author, self-defense advocate and instructor has been featured on Dateline NBC. Her book, "Beauty Bites Beast: Awakening the Warrior in Women and Girls,” is considered a classic in the violence prevention field. She also co-authored the 2015 book “The Safety Godmothers: the ABCs of Awareness, Boundaries and Confidence for Teens" with Lisa Gaeta, founder and CEO of IMPACT Personal Safety of Southern California, a leading trainer in full-force, adrenaline-based self-defense. A regular columnist for the Pasadena Weekly and the Huffington Post, Ellen is a tireless advocate for women and girls and physical safety for all. Her acclaimed one woman show, "Now That She's Gone," is a comic memoir about growing up Norwegian American; it has been performed all over the world. Ellen serves on several boards, including Consumer Watchdog, IMPACT Personal Safety, and 50-50 Leadership, a non-profit that envisions more women and girls in leadership positions. Full BIO: “Safety Godmother” Lisa Gaeta is associate producer of the new documentary “Beauty Bites Beast – Revealing the Missing Conversations about Ending Violence” and co-author with Ellen Snortland of “The Safety Godmothers: the ABCs of Awareness, Boundaries, and Confidence for Teens.” She is founder and CEO of IMPACT Personal Safety of Southern California, a leading trainer in full-force, adrenaline-based self-defense. Lisa was raised in Southern California. She graduated from California Lutheran with a BA in Communications and Political Science, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. After graduating, she took a position at Cal Lutheran where she taught Public Speaking and served as Faculty Advisor for KCRL, the university’s radio station.

For decades, Lisa has been pivotal in keeping full force, full impact adrenalin-based training alive in Southern California and all over the United States via her 501(c)3 IMPACT Personal Safety. Since founding IMPACT, she has trained hundreds of instructors around the world to teach their programs and has taught thousands of women, children and men how to live their lives more safely. She also taught them to kick ass!

Lisa currently serves as CEO of IMPACT Personal Safety and continues to train new instructors and teach classes. During the school year, she teaches daily for a variety of prestigious private schools in the Los Angeles area. As an outspoken survivor of sexual assault and abuse, Yudit has inspired hundreds of women to share their stories, heal from past trauma and move on to become more active in their own communities. She has an MBA and a BA, with a strong emphasis in Psychology. An active Lion of Judah and member of the Jewish Funder’s Network, in 2015 she was the recipient of the prestigious Jerusalem WIZO Woman of the Year award and counted among Nashim Magazine’s top 50 women in Israel. In the summer of 2016 she was awarded the Colleen Gragen Award of Inspiration by the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation.
